red ivory

how even the little fluff balls
slow down their aimless floating through the air
and water’s dripping out of the tap
for hours

red ivory covers the front side of our house
we’re inside
sitting cross-legged on the table in the kitchen
staring in each other’s eyes
for hours

the last sounds of the gymnopédies faded away
and took our words with them
some of my lies still stick to the flowers on the sill
some of your promises stay stuck between salt cellar and pepper pot

we’re still here
sitting, waiting
and we’ll stay
staring, waiting

till dust covers our bodies
and the kitchen is under water
while red ivory took over the house
the piano remains silent
